Sacraments

Welcome to our Anglican community, where we celebrate life's most significant moments through the sacred sacraments. These sacraments are not just ceremonies, but profound expressions of faith, love, and hope. We invite you to join us in these holy rites, where we come together to bless new beginnings, unite in love, and honor the lives of those who have passed. Whether you are seeking to baptise a child, celebrate a wedding, or commemorate a loved one, our doors are open to you with warmth and grace. Come, be a part of our spiritual family, and experience the deep connection and peace that our sacraments bring.

Baptism

Baptism is the way:

  • we become members of the Christian church

  • God adopts us as his children

  • God gives us the gifts of eternal life and the Holy Spirit

  • we begin our life of knowing, loving and serving God

Parents and godparents, but especially parents, have a very important role in the baptism service as they make certain commitments to God.  These are to:

  • pray for your child

  • help your child to learn about God and come to know God

  • help your child to be a worshiping Christian and an active member of the church

St John’s Baptismal Font

As parents and godparents make statements about their faith and make commitments on behalf of their child or godchild, it is vital for at least one of the parents to be a baptised member (preferably confirmed member) of the Christian Faith and for all the godparents to be baptized members. If parents are not baptized or if they are baptized but not confirmed we can help that to happen.

There is no fee for baptism but if you would like to make a donation to thank God for the blessing of your child this donation will be greatly appreciated.

Baptisms happen once a month in one of the main church services. These are Sunday mornings, the third Sunday of the month at St James, Jimboomba at 8:30am or the second Sunday of the month at St John’s, Mundoolun at 10:30am.

For bookings or availability, please contact the parish office.

Weddings

The Anglican Parish of Jimboomba welcomes your enquiry regarding a Christian Marriage Service.

We offer the choice of:
St. John’s, Mundoolun Road, Mundoolun
St. James, 47 East Street, Jimboomba
an Anglican marriage service elsewhere.

In order for us to officiate at your wedding, at least one of you needs to be baptised in any Christian church. In marriages where one or both parties have been previously married and divorced, it is necessary to apply for permission from our Archbishop to conduct the wedding at least three months before the planned day. This is not usually a problem, nor does it take very long, but we cannot officiate at the wedding until we have the Archbishop’s approval.

We are committed to do all we can to help your marriage be a lasting success, so it is necessary for all couples to complete the “Prepare” Marriage Preparation program (comprising two sessions).  We are trained in this program and will lead you through it.

A meeting will also be held with you to:

  • plan the service

  • sight relevant documents (full Birth Certificates, Divorce documents, Death Certificates etc)

  • complete and sign legal documents

The day before your wedding we will hold a rehearsal and sign any final legal documents.

FEES

For a marriage service in one of our churches, the fee is $950.  This includes an organist, the church, the “Prepare” program and all relevant paperwork.

For a marriage service outside of the church, the fee is $950 and includes the service, the “Prepare” program, travel and all relevant paperwork.

A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required to confirm the wedding booking with the balance due prior to the service.

To find out the next availability or to make a booking, please contact the parish office.

Funerals

When a loved one dies, it is important that the funeral honours the deceased and cares for the bereaved. We take this dual role very seriously and consider it a privilege to conduct a funeral.

A funeral is normally arranged through the funeral directors of your choice. Their charges include the services of a priest or celebrant and an organist. Tell your funeral director that you would like a priest from our parish to conduct the funeral. They will contact us and the priest will meet with you to discuss the service.

The funeral can occur at the Church or at the funeral parlour’s chapel as you prefer. If there is to be a burial, we will conduct the graveside service also.

Contact the parish office to make arrangements.
